The Xoom is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2.1 GHz dual-core CPU chip, and comes fitted with 1 GB of RAM memory, along with 32 GB of onboard flash memory for storage of data. Additional data storage is possible by using the Xoom’s SD card port or the USB 2.0 port. The device’s 10.1 inch display has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels and supports HD video at 1080p. There is also an HDMI port, which enables connection to a TV.

 

In accordance with the idea that tablets should share many of the features of smartphones, the Xoom has a camera. In actual fact, it has two cameras: a 5 megapixel stills and video cam facing to the rear of the device, plus a 2 megapixel webcam facing forwards.

 

When it comes to connectivity to the internet, buyers of the Xoom have two options. One version of the Xoom has 3G connectivity, and US buyers of this version are required to take out a contract with Verizon. A second version of the device will come with Wi-Fi connectivity but this is not due for release until later in 2011.

 

One serious drawback of the Apple iPad is that it cannot display web pages that use the Adobe Flash player, for example YouTube. The Xoom, on the other hand, is fully Flash compatible. As one would expect given that Android is a Google creation, the Xoom comes pre-loaded with the Google Chrome browser.

 

In common with the iPad and other such devices, the Xoom does not waste front panel space with any hardware buttons. The entire front is taken up by the screen, and text input is via a virtual, onscreen keyboard that appears when necessary.

 

Based on its specification, the Motorola Xoom would seem to have a good chance of making some serious waves, but it is of course fighting both Apple’s ‘cool’ factor, and also the fact that a souped-up iPad 2 is on the way, which is likely to give Apple the advantage again before very long.

A Review Of The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe

The long awaited screen adaptation of the C.S. Lewis masterpiece doesn’t disappoint. The work of Lewis has long been admired, especially by the more intellectual of Christians. Lewis, a former atheist, used symbolism a great deal in his books and this movie is a perfect example of that.

In the movie as in the book, a group of four children find the world of Narnia through the back of a large piece of furniture known as a “wardrobe”. In this mystical world the children find animals that can speak as well as giants, dwarfs, centaurs, and other beasts too fantastic for description. In true good versus evil fashion, the movie shows the constant battle between the White Witch and her evil army and the good lion Aslan with his valiant army.

This movie has done a superb job of bringing the fantasy world of Narnia to the big screen. The technology and special effects are so incredible that you find yourself becoming entranced by the characters on the screen, especially Aslan, the lion. He dominates every scene he is in and becomes more and more human like as the story unfolds.

The children of the story are just like normal everyday kids and display this with their constant bickering and teasing of each other. However, when the situation demands it they all pull together and show great courage and sacrifice which is an inspiration to both children and adults.

Whether you are familiar with the book or not you will enjoy The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe immensely. After seeing what has been done in bringing this story to film I cannot wait to see some of the other C.S. Lewis books from the Chronicles of Narnia produced into movies as well.

Recently I purchased Flight Pro Sim and trialed it out. This was to ensure I got an unbaised review of what really is on offer, and I was pleasantly surprised…

Unlike an arcade game, it actually took some time to master the controls and get into the air. Already I know this will be a keeper and not some boring game with no challenges.

Flight Pro Sim Landing

Although normally I am not a fan of user manuals (most tend to be far too indepth), I found the  Flight Pro Sim Quick Start Guide had everything I needed to start flying and it is only a couple of short pages.

Once air borne I was  surprised again as to the level of detail as I flew close to the ground I had trees, sheep, a bridge and then the buildings came hurtling towards me. I tested it out further and went higher. Soon I was up in the clouds and blinded by the sun, literally….

After a couple of flight hours, I manged to get the hang of most of the  basic skills. I was addicted and soon I was looping through the 3D clouds..

Read Martin’s Swan’s Diary: Black Water Crossing to discover whether Martin and Jodie overcome their lying relationship, if the terrorist ring is busted, and whether the Santino clan is shown its place. It’s nearly impossible to put this book down until the end. It’s a must read and I highly recommend it.

Martin Swan’s Diary: Black Water Crossing, by Kyle Keyes, is a page-turner full of adventure, comedy, and thrills mixed with a slew of audience-pleasing, action-packed scenes. The book has a distinctively cinematic feel and hits all the right notes when it comes to timing-the dramatic, funny, and exhilarating moments are interwoven beautifully.

The book begins with Martin Swan posing as “Sweeney,” an older, “silver-haired gentleman with bifocals” in order to rescue Jodie Santino from her power-hungry, mobster husband, Carlos Santino. Special Agent Martin Swan is on a mission that takes him to a playhouse in South Jersey, where he first encounters Jodie and her “blonde curls” and decisively falls in love with her-or so it seems.

Kyle Keyes has a special knack for timing and employing comedy relief during tense moments. For example, when Alfred Santino, the father of Carlos, finds out that his son is dead, he cries, “Carlos, our only son. Gone!” His children respond, “Why does Papa keep saying ‘only son?’ asked Brutus, ‘There are thirteen of us.’ ‘Papa was never very good at math,’ replied Franco.”

The Santinos set off to find their grandson, Timmy, who is with Jodie and Swan, targeting any connections linked to Jodie on the way (e.g. Jodie’s sister, Sally). In a series of comedic events-which is inevitable as all of Alfred Santino’s twelve remaining children are dimwitted-Franco and Brutus try to have Jodie to themselves instead of carrying out the mission to get Carlos’ son back to Alfred.

The crux of the book revolves around lies and deception, setting the stage for a thrilling climax. Martin Swan lies to Jodie about who he really is and vice versa. Jodie admits she is not a governor’s daughter and did not grow up in a mansion. However, Jodie and Timmy would be Martin Swan’s cover for his mission in Florida. Swan reveals that he is an undercover federal agent from the F.I.C.

Essentially, the first eight chapters of the book set up the underlying conflict: Martin Swan’s mission to lure the terrorists from Afghanistan. The terrorists’ mission, led by double agent Ahmud Ben Mahmud is to, “Kill Martin Swan!”

Fire up a Blu-ray disc, and the display delivers strikingly crisp images. Pin-sharp detail fills every corner of the screen, while the excellent colour reproduction sees it shrug off the challenges of Avatar, the beautifully rendered palette of blues and greens bringing the planet of Pandora to life.

Don the supplied active-shutter glasses, dab the 3D button beneath the Sony’s display, and the VPCF21Z1E reveals its 3D party trick. The display’s brightness levels drop significantly in 3D mode, when it switches to 120Hz, and the shutter glasses darken content even further, but the sheer quality of the display more than makes amends. Indeed, despite the relatively small 16in panel, Blu-ray 3D content was jaw-droppingly effective, with environments reaching deep into three-dimensional space and objects bursting out of the confines of the screen.

The bundled copy of Corel’s WinDVD software also makes it possible to watch standard 2D movies in a 3D-upscaling mode. We tested it with a DVD of Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as Avatar on Blu-ray, and the results were mixed. The pseudo-3D effect definitely gave images more depth, but, in the main it was unconvincing, and we often found our eyes struggling to adjust to the forced depth effect in certain scenes. Somewhat disappointingly, as the upscaling mode is restricted to WinDVD, it isn’t possible to engage the 3D upscaling while watching web-based content such as BBC iPlayer or YouTube.

However the only downside was that it wasn’t very busy online which is probably due to it being such a new product, I am fully confident that in the growing weeks and months when more buy this product it will.

The flight simulation genre is a highly competitive one, with several notable series. It’s also an exceedingly difficult genre to develop for, so it’s always interesting to see how well new entrants to the genre fare.

This Flight Pro Sim review will do just that, shedding light on this newest flight simulation game.

We’ll kick off this Flight Pro Sim review with a look at the game’s graphics. FPS uses a mixture of Google Map stills, and 3D objects for the environments, and both 2D and 3D for the various plane’s cockpits.

Being an old-school gamer, familiar with some of the earliest flight simulation games, and games in general, graphics are not something I put a great emphasis on, but their importance in flight simulations is greater than it is in some other genres, so I tried to give it a critical look for this Flight Pro Sim review.

That said, I think the graphics hold up well with the current competition. The interiors and exteriors of planes look particularly impressive, and the environments are also breathtaking at times. Each different type of aircraft controls differently, and exactly like you would expect them to, and different models within each aircraft type also have their own unique quirks and subtleties.

Lastly, I had the chance to check out the online component of the game for this Flight Pro Sim review, and found it to be expertly implemented. There are several additional gameplay elements possible in the online mode, including chatting, formation flying, and more.

While there weren’t yet many people playing online, this will surely rise in the coming weeks and months, especially if the game continues to sell as well as it has thus far.

A final important note to consider is that FPS comes with free updates, of which there have already been several. This ensures a steady stream of new content on a consistent basis, which adds even greater value to the package.

I was very impressed with FPS on many different levels. I was somewhat sceptical before playing it, but as I got into the game for the purposes of this Flight Pro Sim review, I found that my scepticism was unwarranted.

This is a great game that will appeal to new and veteran flight simulation fans alike.
